Mayor orders installation of radar after child is run over in Gávea.

A 5-year-old girl was hit by a motorcyclist who ran a red light while leaving a municipal school.

Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere ordered, this Saturday (9), the installation of a radar on Rua Marquês de São Vicente, in Gávea, South Zone of Rio, after the hit-and-run of A 5-year-old child was found near the Artur Ramos Municipal School.

The girl was crossing the pedestrian crosswalk accompanied by her guardian when she was hit by a motorcyclist who allegedly ran a red light.

According to Cavaliere, the driver has been identified through Civitas cameras, as well as radar records and the city's intelligent surveillance system.

“I also ordered the installation of a radar at that location. But it’s important to say: enforcement alone doesn’t solve everything. No city functions without respect for the laws, traffic rules, and people. Civility is everyone’s responsibility. Those who put lives at risk must be held accountable for their actions,” he wrote on social media.
