The recovery of former president Jair Bolsonaro after surgery on my right shoulder He began showing positive signs in the first few hours after the procedure. The information was released on Friday night by former First Lady Michelle Bolsonaro, who has been monitoring his condition since his hospitalization in Brasília.
According to her, the former president responded well to the procedure and was already showing improvement in his overall health. “The blond guy (as she refers to Bolsonaro) is no longer on nasal oxygen. He was able to eat soup, and the fingers on the arm that underwent the procedure—which normally don't move because of the anesthetic—have already started moving again tonight. He's doing well, thank God,” Michelle wrote in a statement released on social media. (see below).

Procedure and initial hours of recovery
The surgery was performed at Hospital DF Star and lasted approximately five hours, including preparation time and the surgical procedure itself. According to the medical report, the procedure went without incident.
"DF Star Hospital reports that former President Jair Messias Bolsonaro underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair surgery on his right side, without complications. He is currently hospitalized in an inpatient unit for pain management and clinical observation," the bulletin states.
The orthopedic surgeon in charge, Alexandre Paniago, reported that the entire process involves about two hours of preparation, including the placement of a catheter for medication, and approximately three hours of surgery.
Supreme Court authorization and context of hospitalization.
The surgery was authorized by Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court. Bolsonaro has been under house arrest since the end of March and needed judicial approval to leave his residence and be hospitalized.
The request was submitted by the defense on April 21st, based on medical reports indicating the need for surgical intervention. The authorization also included permission for Michelle to accompany the former president throughout his hospitalization. Other visits were suspended, pending a new court decision.
The decision also stipulated that the transfer would be carried out under escort by the 19th Battalion of the Military Police of the Federal District, known as Papudinha.
Clinical presentation and surgical indication
According to medical reports submitted to the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Bolsonaro presented significant injuries to his right shoulder, including supraspinatus tendon damage, subscapularis lesions, and biceps subluxation.
The documents also indicated that he suffered from "recurrent and intermittent" pain, both at rest and during arm movements. The defense argued that the procedure was necessary to preserve the functionality of the limb and ensure better health conditions.
The lawyers argued that the surgery was "strictly humanitarian and sanitary," emphasizing that maintaining the condition could affect the patient's quality of life and fundamental right to health.
Recent health history
Before the surgery, Bolsonaro had already been hospitalized at the same hospital, where he was treated for bronchopneumonia. The new procedure was prompted by pain resulting from a fall he suffered while in custody at the Federal District Military Police battalion.
The medical team continues to monitor the patient's progress, focusing on pain control and restoring movement to the operated shoulder.
