RICARDO BRUNO

The possibility of being ousted from power after 25 years of absolutist control of Firjan is so unsettling that Eduardo Eugênio Gouveia Viera is forcing him to abandon the platitudes typical of a lord, as he once behaved. At a virtual event attended by Minister Braga Neto, EEGG displayed bossiness and inelegance. First, he cut off the signal of his opponent, the licensed president of the Commercial Association, Angela Costa. Then, he acted disrespectful, telling the minister that his opponent no longer ran the commercial entity, as if the temporary removal had not been a result of the campaign itself.

Known as EEGG, almost a noble insignia, Eduardo Eugênio has controlled Firjan for a quarter of a century, in a process of perpetuating power that, over the years, sapped the institution's vitality and energy. The natural oxygenation resulting from the alternation of power in democratic environments was lost. And Firjan began to be managed based on more individual interests and less representative of the entire Rio de Janeiro business community.

An analysis of the 110 votes at stake in the election on the 17th suggests that EEGG's reign may be coming to an end. So far, he has the support of approximately 43 voting entities, compared to Angela Costa's 48. The 10 undecided votes will determine the entity's fate: whether it remains under the control of the current president or allows itself to change in the name of a beneficial alternation of power.
