State deputy Márcio Canela (MDB-RJ) filed a request with the STJ on Tuesday for access to the content of former secretary Edmar Santos' plea bargain.

In a statement from his lawyers, addressed to the reporting minister Benedito Gonçalves, the parliamentarian denies any connection with the facts of the investigation, stating that he does not know the sergeant who, in prison, had identified himself as his friend to try to extract information from the former secretary about the content of the plea bargain.

In the document, Márcio Canela makes himself available to the STJ to provide clarifications regarding the facts in which he was involved.

According to the deputy's lawyers, he does not know the sergeant who made the alleged threats reported in the plea bargain, nor did he have any interest in obtaining information about the collaboration agreement because he has no proximity to the set of facts involving Edmar Santos.

Canela's lawyers also cite a binding ruling by Minister Gilmar Mendes that guarantees access to the content of the plea bargain by people who may be cited, even if the case is processed under seal.
