Rio de Janeiro native João Fonseca faces Mensik in the Roland Garros quarterfinals; check the schedule and details of the match.

Brazilian seeks unprecedented qualification, except for Guga, a three-time champion, in the semifinals of the French Open and faces Czech player this Tuesday on the tournament's main court.

Brazilian João Fonseca returns to the court this Tuesday (2) to compete for a place in the Roland Garros 2026 semifinals. His opponent will be Czech Jakub Mensik, in a match valid for the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam played in Paris.

The match is scheduled to take place on the Philippe-Chatrier court, the main venue of the French tournament, and will not start before 15:15 PM (Brasilia time).

Seeded 28th in the competition, Fonseca is trying to extend his historic campaign and continue writing his name among the great moments of Brazilian tennis.

Historic campaign places João Fonseca among the best at Roland Garros.

The young Brazilian's journey in Paris has already made history. To reach the quarterfinals, João Fonseca defeated Luka Pavlovic, Dino Prizmic, Novak Djokovic, and Casper Ruud.

The result ends a drought of more than two decades for Brazilian men's tennis in Grand Slams. The last time a Brazilian athlete had reached this stage in a men's singles draw was in 2004, when Gustavo Kuerten advanced at Roland Garros.

Now, the Rio native is trying to take another step towards an unprecedented campaign in his professional career.

Mensik also arrives in good form after eliminating favorites.

On the other side of the net will be Jakub Mensik, currently the 26th seed in the tournament. The Czech player is on a consistent run, having eliminated Titouan Druget, Mariano Navone, Alex De Minaur, and Andrey Rublev to reach the quarterfinals.

Considered one of the top prospects of the new generation on the circuit, Mensik has so far won the biggest title of his career at the Miami Masters 1000 in 2025.

On that occasion, the tennis player defeated Serbian Novak Djokovic in the final and lifted the most important trophy of his professional career.

History favors the Brazilian in previous encounters.

João Fonseca and Jakub Mensik have few recorded encounters on the professional circuit, but the head-to-head record favors the Brazilian.

The only official ATP match took place in October 2025, during the ATP Basel tournament. On that occasion, Fonseca advanced by walkover after his opponent withdrew due to a left foot injury.

The two also faced each other in the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, a competition that brings together the best tennis players in the world under 21 years old. In that balanced match, João Fonseca prevailed, winning 3 sets to 2.

Expectations are high for an unprecedented spot in the semifinals.

The duel between Fonseca and Mensik pits two of the most promising players in world tennis today against each other. Besides the chance to reach the Roland Garros semi-finals, the match could represent another milestone in the Brazilian's international rise.

With a campaign marked by impressive victories and the elimination of big names on the circuit, João Fonseca arrives at the confrontation surrounded by expectation from fans and sports experts.
