CCBB discusses biography and memory with Ruy Castro and Heloisa Seixas.

A free event brings together renowned authors to discuss personal narratives and contemporary literature.

At a time when personal narratives, life stories and the revisiting of history are gaining more and more space in cultural and literary debate, the CCBB Reading Club 2026 dedicates its next meeting to the theme Biography & Memory. The edition takes place next Wednesday (13) and brings together two central names in contemporary Brazilian literature: journalist and biographer Ruy Castro and writer Heloisa Seixas. The conversation will be moderated by Suzana Vargas and Ramón Nunes Mello.

The Ombudsman of Brazil: 99 Times Tom Jobim, by Ruy Castro, and the The Book of Little No'sThe books chosen by the public, in an open vote on the CCBB's Instagram profile (@ccbbrj), for the debate were: [Book title 1], by Heloisa Seixas. Ruy Castro's title won the Jabuti Prize for book of the year in 2025.

For Heloisa, this contact with the reader gives the writer a different perspective on what they write. "It's as if they were reading their own book for the first time," she says. Ruy Castro believes that the encounter between the author and the public is always an event, as it is one of the few opportunities for the two to look each other in the eye. "Everyone wins with this – the author, the reader, and the book," the renowned author emphasizes.

According to curator and mediator Suzana Vargas, bringing the two authors together in the same meeting allows for discussion of some of the most prevalent genres in current literature. “Bringing Ruy Castro and Heloisa Seixas to the Book Club means opening space for reflection on literary genres that are very much in vogue today: memoir, biography, and the novel,” she emphasizes, adding that it is also necessary to question to what extent pure memoir has its validity in contemporary literary production.
