The Tim Maia Cycle Path was closed at the end of the morning this Monday (4) due to the strong swell that hit the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The preventive measure was adopted after waves exceeded 2 meters in height, posing a risk to cyclists and pedestrians.
The road closure is taking place on the stretch between São Conrado and the Vidigal metal footbridge, in the southern part of the city. According to authorities, the closure follows safety protocols, with the support of audible alarms and the presence of Municipal Guard officers to prevent traffic in the area.
High surf warning remains in effect until Tuesday.
The high surf warning issued by the Brazilian Navy remains valid until 3 pm on Tuesday (5). The forecast indicates that waves could reach up to 15 meters in height, keeping the sea rough and dangerous throughout the period.
Authorities recommend that the public avoid affected coastal areas, especially stretches with a history of direct wave impact, such as the bike path itself, which has been the scene of accidents in previous storm surge episodes.
The weather is clear, but the sea remains dangerous.
Despite the adverse conditions at sea, the weather forecast for Tuesday indicates stable conditions. The sky should vary between cloudy and partly cloudy, with no rain expected throughout the day.
Temperatures will remain mild during the early morning hours, with a predicted low of 16°C, while the high could reach 30°C in the afternoon, with sunshine. Winds are expected to be light to moderate. Even so, swimming in the sea is not recommended while the high surf warning is in effect.
