In a statement released yesterday, Friday, the state secretary of tourism, Otávio Leite, announced that he is leaving his post. The reason given is that he will dedicate himself to a doctoral course in the field. The resignation, amidst the crisis engulfing Guanabara Palace, increases the political isolation of Governor Wilson Witzel. Leite is the eighth departure from the governor's cabinet following the corruption scandals.
Read Otávio Leite's statement:
"I am leaving SETUR, on my own initiative, and embarking on an academic project – applying for a doctorate in Tourism."
I appreciate the opportunity given to Governor Witzel to have worked for the benefit of tourism in Rio de Janeiro. We accomplished a great deal and many seeds have been planted.
I also extend my compliments to all leaders in the sector, whether from the public or private sphere, for their ongoing dialogue and cooperation. Especially to the teams at Setur and TurisRio.
I believe in tourism in our Rio de Janeiro!
