'Hardest decision of my life': Castro says he gave up running for Senate to dedicate himself to his defense.

Under investigation for his alleged ties to Daniel Vorcaro and alleged losses to Rioprevidência (Rio de Janeiro's pension fund), the former governor affirms that he will prove his innocence and that he trusts in the justice system.

Former governor Cláudio Castro confirmed in a video released Wednesday afternoon that he has withdrawn from the race for a Senate seat in the October elections to focus on his defense. He is the target of two... Operations launched by the Federal Police in the last 15 days.Regarding the investigation into Castro's relationship with former banker Daniel Vorcaro and financial investments that caused billions in losses to Rioprevidência (the state's pension fund), Castro said he trusts the justice system and will prove the correctness of his actions.

"I have no doubt that the truth will be revealed. I have no doubt that the half-truths will fall apart. But for that, I need time. I have no doubt about the integrity of my actions," Castro stated, reminding everyone of his status as a lawyer.

Same rendering him ineligible by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), due to the Ceperj case (use of public funds to pay campaign workers).Castro maintained his pre-candidacy for the Senate with the PL party. However, recent operations by the Federal Police led the party leadership to conclude that Castro's name had become unviable, and could also harm Senator Flávio Bolsonaro's pre-candidacy for the Presidency.

In the video posted today, Castro said that he and his family have been going through very difficult times in recent days and that, in light of recent events, he has made the "most difficult" decision of his life: to withdraw from the Senate race.

Castro stated that by Tuesday of next week he will present a petition with his defense in one of the lawsuits he is facing, which motivated this week's Federal Police operation, and stressed that his departure from politics is temporary.

“I am not ending my political life here. I am only taking a necessary step, with humility, with tranquility, with the certainty of doing the right thing at this very difficult moment (…) I will continue to defend my history, my trajectory, my family, all the legacy that we left for Rio de Janeiro,” he concluded.
