The PSDB's support for Eduardo Paes' (PSD) political project for the state government is already starting to produce practical effects in the municipal administration of Rio. A mini-reform published in the Official Gazette this Monday (30) expanded the presence of PSDB allies in the first tier of the city hall, consolidating the party's advance within the government structure.
The changes mainly affect two areas: Healthy Aging and Solidarity Economy. Both will now be led by figures linked to important members of the PSDB party in Rio de Janeiro, especially federal deputies Luciano Vieira, the party's state president, and Juninho do Pneu.
In the Secretariat of Solidarity Economy, the new head is Thiago de Souza Pereira. He served as parliamentary secretary to Juninho do Pneu from 2021 until February 2026, reinforcing the deputy's direct influence on the appointment. The Secretariat of Healthy Aging and Quality of Life will be headed by André Luiz Daltro Ferreira, who was part of Luciano Vieira's cabinet team until the beginning of 2025.
This move comes just days after the PSDB officially announced its support for Eduardo Paes's candidacy for governor of the state, signaling a political rapprochement that now translates into administrative space in the city hall.
Changes also affect Human Rights
The reorganization of the secretariat was not limited to appointments from the PSDB party. The Secretariat for Human Rights and Racial Equality also underwent changes, this time involving the PT-PV Federation.
Former minister Edson Santos (PT) left his post at his own request. He was replaced by councilman Marcio Santos (PV), who previously held the position of Secretary of Solidarity Economy. The change highlights an internal realignment among the parties that make up the political base of the municipal government.
Political realignment underway
The changes indicate a broader rearrangement in the political composition of the city hall, directly reflecting the alliances that are beginning to form with an eye on the state elections. The strengthening of the PSDB in the municipal secretariat suggests a strategy of consolidating institutional support for Eduardo Paes's project, while simultaneously redistributing positions among allied parties.
Former deputy mayor also dismissed.
The movements don't stop there. The Official Gazette also records the resignation, at his own request, of Nilton Caldeira da Fonseca Filho, who held the position of special advisor in the Municipal Secretariat of the Civil House. Nilton Caldeira was previously vice-mayor during Eduardo Paes's administration, which makes his departure another point of attention behind the scenes of politics.
Furthermore, other appointments and administrative adjustments appear in the publications, such as technical designations and formal corrections in positions within the municipal structure, indicating a broader reorganization within the city hall.
