Delivery drivers in Maricá will have electric motorcycles and a cooperative app.

Mayor Washington Quaquá announces registration for delivery drivers to access electric motorcycles, batteries, and a future cooperative with its own app.

The mayor of Maricá, Washington Quaquá, announced a new program aimed at app-based delivery drivers that promises to change the work routine of this category in the municipality. In a video released on social media, he detailed the opening of registration for professionals interested in participating in the initiative, which includes the provision of electric motorcycles, as well as infrastructure for recharging with solar energy.

The proposal specifically targets workers on platforms like iFood and other delivery services, highlighting the role of these professionals in the local economy. According to Quaquá, the goal is to reduce operational costs and improve working conditions for this group.

Electric motorcycles and solar energy

According to the announcement, registered delivery drivers will have access to electric motorcycles, as well as the installation of solar panels and batteries in their homes. The idea is to allow recharging with energy generated during the day, stored for nighttime use.

The measure aims to reduce fuel and electricity costs, as well as contribute to pollution reduction. The initiative is also presented as a way to encourage sustainability and modernization of delivery activities.

Registration open and focus on income.

Registration must be done at the municipal Traffic and Transportation departments. The goal is to reach workers who depend directly on deliveries for their family's livelihood.

During the announcement, the mayor highlighted the importance of public policies aimed at those working in the so-called informal or self-employed economy. He used the term "sevirariado" (a blend of "semi-entrepreneurial" and "freelance") to describe people who juggle different activities to generate income, such as ride-hailing drivers, small business owners, and delivery workers.

Cooperative and new app

Another point announced was the creation of a delivery workers' cooperative in Maricá, with plans to launch its own app. The proposal aims to offer an alternative to international platforms, with conditions considered more advantageous for the workers.

According to Quaquá, the goal is to strengthen an economy based on cooperatives and expand the autonomy of professionals by reducing fees charged by large companies in the sector.

The initiative has not yet had a detailed schedule released, but the city government is already advising those interested to register for both the program and the future cooperative.
