A survey by ÉPOCA magazine, based on nearly 40 deeds of sale and 20 records in notary offices in Rio de Janeiro and Brasília, shows that President Bolsonaro's ex-wife, Ana Cristina Valle, experienced enormous asset growth during the time she lived with him. From the end of 1997, when she became involved with the then-federal deputy, until 2008, when they separated, Ana Cristina bought, with Jair, 14 apartments, houses, and plots of land, totaling real estate assets valued at approximately R$ 3 million at the time of the separation—the equivalent of R$ 5,3 million adjusted for inflation.
In the purchase of five of these 14 properties, payment was made "in legal tender," that is, in cash. These included two houses, one apartment, and two plots of land—all acquired through separate transactions between 2000 and 2006, totaling R$ 243.300 in the currency of the time. Today, this amount would be equivalent to R$ 680, adjusted for inflation using the IPCA index according to the date of each purchase.
