Municipal police force makes 392 arrests in 50 days in Rio.

The elite division of the Municipal Guard is expanding its operations and beginning its reach into new areas with a high incidence of crime.

The Rio City Hall presented, this Tuesday (5), the balance of the first 50 days of operation of the Municipal Force, elite division of the Municipal Guard of Rio de Janeiro. During the period, 392 arrests were made for crimes such as robbery, theft and receiving stolen goods.

According to the data released, the agents also seized and recovered 71 cell phones and 46 motorcycles. The force began operating on March 15 and has already carried out more than 2 preventive stops, taking suspects to police stations.

According to the Special Secretary for Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale, the operation is based on mapping so-called "crime hotspots," allowing for the strategic targeting of teams to areas with a higher incidence of crime.

Priority perimeters

In total, 22 perimeters were identified as priorities across the city. Currently, the operation is already consolidated in five regions, and a new phase of expansion begins next Sunday (10), with the inclusion of three areas in Botafogo, in the South Zone.

Among the areas that will receive increased security are the vicinity of the Botafogo Metro station, Rua São Clemente, Rua Voluntários da Pátria, and the stretch between Praia de Botafogo and Rua Marquês de Abrantes, as well as nearby streets.

The report also detailed the results of the first month of operations in areas of the city center, such as Avenida Presidente Vargas, Campo de Santana, Central do Brasil, and Cinelândia.

In these regions, during 30 days of operation, 117 arrests were recorded, three replica firearms were seized, and 31 cell phones were recovered.
