The Elite Division of GM-Rio – Municipal Force announced, this Tuesday (26), that it will expand its operations to the North Zone of the city. The new perimeter of preventive and ostensive policing will cover the region between the Méier train station and the Cachambi neighborhood, with the start scheduled for June 7th.
This area will be the second in the North Zone to be included. Since April, agents from the Municipal Force have already been there. They operate on the stretch between Rua São Francisco Xavier and Praça Afonso Pena, in Tijuca.
The announcement was made during a meeting of CompStat Rio. According to Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, the choice of the region took into consideration the rates of robberies and thefts recorded in the area.
“We are announcing the start of operations by the Municipal Force in the corridor between Cachambi and Méier, a region with a high concentration of robberies and thefts. This area had already been used as a pilot in other actions and efforts by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, and now it will also benefit from preventive and visible policing by the Municipal Force,” he stated.
According to Cavaliere, the corporation reached the milestone of 600 arrests without firing a single shot. "I would also like to highlight that we have reached 600 arrests without firing a single shot. This is a consequence of planning, management, and intelligence in the actions of the Municipal Force," said the mayor of Rio, alongside the mayor of Duque de Caxias, Netinho Reis, who was invited to participate in the meeting.
Currently, the Municipal Force operates in other areas of the city. These are:
- Rio Bus Station X Gentileza Terminal X Leopoldina Station; Jardim de Alah;
- Avenida Presidente Vargas X Campo de Santana X Central do Brasil X Cinelândia; – Campo Grande (train station X pedestrian walkway);
- Tijuca (São Francisco Xavier X Afonso Pena); Botafogo, within the perimeter of Rua Lauro Müller X Rua General Severiano X Avenida Venceslau Brás;
- Surrounding area of Botafogo Metro station (including Rua São Clemente, Rua Voluntários da Pátria and cross streets);
- The axis between Praia de Botafogo and Rua Marquês de Abrantes, including some streets in the Flamengo neighborhood;
- Bangu, on the pedestrian walkway of the popular shopping district and at Bangu Shopping.
The operational planning of the armed guard follows technical parameters defined from the analysis of statistical indicators and crime maps.
"Therefore, all agents of the Municipal Force operate based on the Directed Missions Framework (QMD), which establishes specific objectives daily for each area of operation and allows the positioning of personnel in strategic areas and times," stated the Secretary of Urban Security, Brenno Carnevale.
Operational balance
Since the start of operations on March 15, agents have conducted more than 3.500 stops, resulting in 600 arrests and detentions. Teams have also seized and recovered 104 cell phones, 84 motorcycles, 15 bicycles, 13 necklaces, as well as a pistol, four replica firearms, and 16 bladed weapons.
