General strike in Portugal causes flight cancellations between Brazil and Europe.

A strike scheduled for Wednesday will affect operations of TAP and Azul; passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airports.

The general strike called for this Wednesday (3) in Portugal is already impacting air transport and has led to the cancellation of flights between the European country and Brazil. The strike, organized by the General Confederation of Portuguese Workers (CGTP), is a protest against changes in Portuguese labor legislation and is expected to affect several sectors, including health, education, transport and aviation.

In light of the mobilization, Lisbon Airport recommended that passengers check the status of their flights directly with the airlines beforehand before traveling to the terminal, it reports. O DiaIt is expected that hundreds of operations will be disrupted throughout the day.

More than 500 flights may be affected.

According to information published by the Portuguese newspaper EcoThe National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel (SNPVAC) estimates that more than 500 flights scheduled for Wednesday may be impacted by the strike.

In addition to flights scheduled for the day of the strike, flights scheduled for nearby dates may also experience delays, schedule changes, or cancellations due to the operational impacts caused by the workers' mobilization.

TAP reduces operations but maintains connections with Brazil.

TAP Air Portugal has announced that it will operate only 79 flights during the strike period. Of these, 17 will originate from or be destined for Brazilian cities located in the Federal District, Minas Gerais, Pará, Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, and São Paulo.

In a statement, the company said it is contacting passengers affected by the cancellations to offer alternative travel options. The company did not disclose the exact number of flights canceled.

"TAP is contacting all customers with cancelled flights who have not yet changed their reservations so that, together, the best travel alternatives can be found," the company informed.

The airline also regretted the disruptions caused by the strike and stated that it is working to minimize the impact on customers.

Azul cancels four flights between Campinas and Lisbon.

Azul also announced changes to its international network due to the strike. The company canceled four flights that were scheduled to operate between Viracopos Airport in Campinas (SP) and Lisbon.

Flights AD8750 and AD8900, which were scheduled to leave Brazil on Tuesday (2), as well as flights AD8751 and AD8901, scheduled to return from Lisbon to Brazil on Wednesday (3), have been suspended.

According to the company, affected passengers are being notified of the changes. In a statement, Azul emphasized that the situation is external to its operations and informed that it is taking measures to reduce the impact on customers.
