Man flees by sea after being approached and is arrested in Niterói.

The suspect escaped during a police operation against a stolen car, but was located hours later on Boa Viagem Beach.

The Military Police recovered a stolen car and arrested three suspects during an operation carried out between Tuesday night (26) and Wednesday morning (27), in the Boa Viagem region, in Niterói.

According to the Military Police, two men were arrested during the vehicle stop on Avenida Milton Tavares de Souza. The driver, however, abandoned the car and fled into the sea, near the Church of São Domingos, in the Gragoatá neighborhood.

According to the corporation, teams searched the region with support from the Air Mobile Group (GAM) and a drone, but the suspect was not located at that time.

Found in the morning

The man was eventually found and arrested this morning by the Niterói Municipal Guard on Boa Viagem Beach. According to the officers, he was hiding among the rocks below the boardwalk with several injuries.

The incident began after the Integrated Public Security Center (Cisp) of the Niterói City Hall identified, through the electronic surveillance system, a stolen car entering the city.

With the alert issued by the monitoring system, military police officers set up a tactical perimeter and managed to locate the vehicle.

Cisp Help

The two suspects initially arrested were taken to the 76th Police Station (Niterói), along with the recovered vehicle. The third detainee was also taken to the station after receiving medical attention.

In a statement, the Niterói City Hall reported that the Cisp monitors entrances and exits of the city with more than 900 cameras operating 24 hours a day.

According to the municipality, the system has already helped recover more than 770 stolen, robbed, or investigated vehicles, in addition to identifying 22 stolen or robbed cars this year alone.
