The Rio de Janeiro court decided to keep Navy Sergeant Tayana Rangel Cardeal in custody. accused of killing businessman Davidson Vasconcellos during a 15th birthday party in the Campinho neighborhood., in the North Zone of the capital. The arrest in flagrante was converted into preventive detention this Tuesday (26), while family and friends of the victim participated in the burial at the Ricardo de Albuquerque Cemetery.
In her ruling, Judge Júlia Lattouf de Almeida classified the case as "extremely serious conduct," highlighting that the homicide occurred in a family gathering setting.
According to investigations, Tayana shot Davidson in the face after an argument with her husband, a military police officer stationed at the 4th BPM (Méier), during the celebration held in the early hours of Sunday (24).
The crime shocked friends and family.
According to witnesses, the sergeant went to her husband's car to retrieve his weapon after the argument began. She then returned to the party. When Davidson tried to intervene to de-escalate the situation, he was shot in the face.
The businessman died at the scene, in front of his partner and two daughters. The victim's youngest daughter, the sergeant's goddaughter, also witnessed the scene just minutes after dancing with Tayana during the party.
The close relationship between the victim and the accused further increased the commotion among family and friends. Davidson and his wife had been godparents at the soldier's wedding, while Tayana was godmother to the couple's youngest daughter.

On social media, friends described Davidson as a man devoted to his family and much loved by everyone around him. Farewell messages and calls for justice were posted throughout the day.
The victim's wife also shared old photos with the businessman and demanded accountability for the crime. According to people close to them, the families had maintained a friendly relationship for decades.
Investigation continues
The case is being investigated by the Capital Homicide Division (DHC), which is examining all the details of the crime's dynamics and the testimonies collected after the sergeant's arrest.
In an official statement, the Brazilian Navy regretted the incident and stated that the servicewoman's actions do not represent the institution. The organization also informed that it will continue to cooperate with the investigations conducted by the police authorities.
"The military personnel involved is available to the competent authorities for the investigation of the facts," the Navy reported.
