The Budget Committee of the Legislative Assembly of Rio (Alerj) underwent a reconfiguration this Tuesday (5), with the departure of deputy Luiz Paulo (PSD) and the election of Gustavo Tutuca (PP) to the presidency of the committee. The change occurs amidst internal political rearrangements and disputes for space between parties.
Luiz Paulo formalized his departure from the commission on the same day that the group came to be led by Tutuca. The position was filled by André Corrêa (PSD), who had previously chaired the committee. The election that determined the new leadership had five votes in favor and one abstention.
Change after switching parties.
The reorganization of the committee comes after André Corrêa left the PP and joined the PSD during the last party switching window. This change opened the door for the PP to claim control of the committee, considered one of the most strategic in the House.
The movement was orchestrated with the participation of the president of Alerj, Douglas Ruas (PL), and resulted in the selection of Tutuca, who previously held the position of state secretary of Tourism.
Luiz Paulo's stance
Upon announcing his departure, Luiz Paulo stated that he decided not to participate in the vote to avoid interfering in the process, affirming that he had signed his resignation from the commission and would opt for abstention so as not to taint the election, in addition to maintaining the presentation of his votes in writing on the government's accounts when they are analyzed in plenary session.
Despite leaving the committee, the representative emphasized that he will continue to monitor and comment on issues related to the state's public finances.
The Budget Committee is responsible for analyzing important proposals, such as the Budget Guidelines Law (LDO) and the annual budget, and is considered central to defining the financial priorities of the state government.
