The Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, made a statement this Saturday (30) that resonated in the political arena when she indirectly commented on the production company responsible for the film “Dark Horse”, a work that portrays the political trajectory of former president Jair Bolsonaro.
During the launch of the Tela Brasil Platform, an initiative aimed at expanding access to national audiovisual content, the minister highlighted the ministry's actions and stated that the government does not need to resort to artifices to strengthen the cultural sector.
“I am very happy with this moment, very grateful to be in this position as Minister of Culture, to have this wonderful team at the Ministry of Culture, everyone committed to ensuring that cultural policies reach everywhere and strengthen our sector. We don't need to invent fake products to be who we are,” she declared.
The statement was interpreted as a reference to the production company Go Up Entertainment, responsible for making "Dark Horse," a film that chronicles Bolsonaro's political career and which has been the subject of debate following the release of reports involving its production.
Film at the center of controversy.
The controversy gained momentum after a report by The Intercept Brasil revealed conversations between Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and former banker Daniel Vorcaro, who is linked to Banco Master.
According to reports, the messages concerned discussions involving resources for the film production. The case has raised questions about the origin of the project's funding.
Divergent versions
In a public statement, Go Up Entertainment stated that the film did not receive any funding from Daniel Vorcaro.
According to the production company, the work did not receive "a single cent from Mr. Daniel Vorcaro," a version that differs from the information associated with the episode.
Flávio Bolsonaro, in turn, confirmed that he had conversations with Vorcaro, but stated that the objective was to seek "private sponsorship for a private film" about his father's story.
Political debate
The minister's statements come at a time of strong political polarization and amplify the repercussions surrounding "Dark Horse," a production that continues to spark discussions about funding, behind-the-scenes aspects, and the relationship between culture and politics.
Meanwhile, the Tela Brasil Platform was launched by the Ministry of Culture as an initiative to expand the circulation of Brazilian audiovisual productions and strengthen public access to national content.
