Two women were arrested in the act this Sunday (3), in Campo Grande, in the West Zone of Rio, suspected of mistreating a dog. The animal was left alone in an apartment on Estrada da Cachamorra throughout the holiday and the weekend.
According to the police, the dog is elderly, depends on continuous medication, and was in poor hygienic conditions, surrounded by feces and urine. The frequent barking caught the attention of residents of the building, who contacted the "Nas Garras da Lei" (In the Clutches of the Law) project. The incident had to be registered at the 35th Police Station (Campo Grande).

In their testimony, Camila Pontes da Silva, 36, and Luana Teles, 33, stated that they had been traveling and that a friend would be responsible for feeding and caring for the dog. However, the woman did not have the correct key to the property and was unable to enter.
According to the officer in charge, Marcos Castro, the situation caused discomfort among the neighbors, who noticed the animal's condition.
“We proceeded to the location and confirmed the facts. Soon after, the owners found out and came to the scene. It's true that they were absent every weekend. They allowed the police team and the veterinarian to enter. We confirmed the mistreatment, they were arrested in the act and will be taken to a custody hearing,” he stated.
The dog was removed from the scene and taken for veterinary evaluation. The news outlet was unable to reach the defense attorneys for those involved. The space remains open for comments.
