Mayor Rodrigo Neves announced on Tuesday (7) that the City Hall will begin distributing one million masks to the entire city's population free of charge on Wednesday (8). The equipment was purchased from small and medium-sized clothing manufacturers in the city and will be distributed by religious institutions, residents' associations, Family Doctor Program teams, Basic Health Units and regional administrations.
"Our goal is to distribute these masks within a week. I reiterate that our greatest weapon remains social distancing. However, anyone who needs to go out should wear a mask to protect themselves and others, as many coronavirus cases are asymptomatic. I would like to thank the city's religious leaders, with whom I met yesterday via video conference, who will help us with these tasks so that every Niterói resident has at least one mask when they need to go out."
