UN suspends employee who assaulted attendant at drive-thru in Brasília; video

A female employee was caught on camera slapping a fellow fast-food worker after an argument over an order without onions.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has removed Huíla Borges Klanovichs, 35, from her duties after she was caught on camera assaulting a drive-thru attendant in Brasília. The incident occurred in the early hours of last Friday (1st) and gained attention after security camera footage captured the moment of the assault.

In a statement, the agency linked to the United Nations (UN) said it took "immediate measures" upon learning of the incident. The employee was placed on leave while the case is reviewed by the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS), which is responsible for independent investigations within the organization.

The UNODC stated that it is available to collaborate with Brazilian authorities and reiterated that it does not tolerate any type of violence. "No form of violence is tolerated, and all personnel must comply with UN rules and regulations, guided by values ​​of respect, integrity, responsibility, and ethics," the agency emphasized in a statement.

The case was formally referred for internal investigation, in parallel with the investigations conducted by local authorities.

In her statement to the police, Huíla stated that she has a severe onion allergy and requested a replacement sandwich after identifying the ingredient in the order. According to her, she was disrespected by the server when she complained about the situation, which started the argument, reports the agency. Metropolis.

The 34-year-old employee of the establishment presented a different version of events. She reported that she replaced the order, but was then humiliated by the customer, who demanded an apology. Upon her refusal, the aggressor allegedly slapped her twice in the face.

Police action and its consequences.

The Military Police of the Federal District were called around 1 a.m. to respond to the incident. According to Delegate Wellington Barros, the altercation began after the customer expressed dissatisfaction with her order. “The server went to change the order, and when she returned, the customer demanded an apology. Upon hearing that there was no reason for one, she resorted to aggression,” he explained.

After providing her statement, Huíla was released, and the case will now be reviewed by the Judiciary.

Company provides support to victim.

In a statement, McDonald's reported that it took all necessary measures at the time of the incident, contacted the authorities, and is offering support to the assaulted employee. The company also reiterated that it condemns any form of violence and reinforced its commitment to a safe and respectful environment for customers and employees.

As of the last update, Huíla Borges Klanovichs' defense team had not yet issued a statement. The opportunity to comment remains open.
