The Civil Police carried out an operation, this Wednesday (6), against the financial arm of Comando Vermelho, responsible for the sale of stolen copper cables. The offensive took place in the communities of Fallet-Fogueteiro, Morro dos Prazeres and Morro da Coroa, in the capital, as well as addresses in Niterói, Duque de Caxias, Magé and Italva.
One suspect was arrested and more than 18 kg of dried marijuana, materials related to a "gatonet" (illegal cable TV) operation, and drug weighing equipment were seized. In addition, officers recovered a stolen car and two stolen motorcycles.
The operation, which aimed to execute 80 search and seizure warrants, is coordinated by agents from the Robbery and Theft Division (DRF), with support from the General Department of Specialized Police (DGPE) and the Special Resources Coordination (Core).
During the raid by officers in the communities, there was an exchange of gunfire and a police officer was shot in the hand. There is no information about his health status.
Understand the scheme.
The investigations began after intelligence data indicated the existence of a junkyard in the central region of Rio de Janeiro, used to receive stolen copper. As the actions progressed, the police identified an organized criminal structure based in the communities of Fallet-Fogueteiro, Prazeres, and Morro da Coroa.
The operation involved R$ 27,4 million and funded the purchase of weapons and helped maintain the faction's territorial control.
According to the police, the group had a clear division of roles, with leadership, drug trafficking management, armed security, logistics operators, a financial core, and a structured network for receiving stolen goods.
The scheme maintained a continuous cycle in which the theft and sale of copper financially fueled drug trafficking, strengthening the faction's operations and territorial expansion.
The operation is taking place simultaneously in different municipalities, following intelligence work that mapped the group's structure and identified its members.
