Petrobras reduces diesel price by R$ 0,35 and the government expands fuel subsidies.

The measure goes into effect this Monday and reinforces the federal package to contain the impacts of rising oil prices on consumers and productive sectors.

Petrobras announced a reduction of R$ 0,3515 per liter in the price of diesel sold to distributors starting this Monday (1st). With the change, the average price of the fuel will drop from R$ 3,65 to R$ 3,30 per liter.

The decision is part of a set of measures adopted by the federal government to mitigate the effects of rising oil prices in the international market, driven by conflicts in the Middle East.

The announced reduction replaces the previous model of tax exemption on diesel and will now operate through a direct subsidy granted by the federal government.

Government expands aid and benefit reaches R$ 1,47 per liter.

With the new policy, the total government subsidy for diesel will reach R$ 1,47 per liter. The extension of the incentives was formalized by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva through a decree, a provisional measure, and an ordinance from the Ministry of Finance published between Friday and Saturday.

Starting this Monday, domestic refineries and importers will receive a subsidy of R$ 1,12 per liter of diesel sold. This benefit replaces previous programs that guaranteed subsidies of R$ 0,32 per liter, in addition to specific subsidies for fuel produced in Brazil and for imported diesel.

According to the federal government, the new model will function as a kind of cashback for companies in the sector, which remain obligated to fully pass on the cost reduction to end consumers.

Exemption for aviation kerosene and biodiesel is maintained.

In addition to diesel, the government decided to extend until July 31 the exemption from federal taxes on the sale and import of aviation kerosene (QAV) and biodiesel.

With this measure, the PIS/Pasep and Cofins tax rates that apply to these fuels remain at zero. The initiative seeks to reduce pressure on the operational costs of the aviation sector and avoid more significant price increases for passengers and consumers.

Aviation kerosene currently represents one of the main components of airline expenses. According to industry data, the fuel accounts for approximately 45% of companies' operating costs after the latest adjustments made by Petrobras.

The package aims to mitigate the effects of rising oil prices.

The extension of these measures is part of the economic package announced by the government to address the effects of soaring oil prices in the international market.

The package of actions includes incentives for diesel, cooking gas, biodiesel, and aviation kerosene, in addition to offering credit lines for airlines.

According to the Minister of Planning, Bruno Moretti, the total cost of the measures should reach R$ 30,5 billion. The government, however, states that the impact will be offset by extraordinary revenues, such as increased tax collection on fuels and royalties from oil exploration.

Subsidy for cooking gas is also extended.

Another measure announced by the government was the extension, until July 31, of the subsidy for producers and importers of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), known as cooking gas.

The funds allocated to cover the benefit have been increased from R$ 330 million to R$ 660 million. According to the government, this increase will allow for a discount equivalent to R$ 11 per 13-kilogram gas cylinder sold during this period.

In a statement, Finance Minister Dario Durigan affirmed that the actions aim to reduce the economic impacts caused by the international scenario on the budgets of Brazilian families. The minister also highlighted that the government intends to maintain financial neutrality.
