A hang glider crashed this Monday morning inside the Botanical Garden, in the South Zone of Rio, after the pilot lost control of the equipment during flight.
According to initial reports, the pilot had taken off from the São Conrado ramp, a traditional spot for paragliding in the city, when he was surprised by a gust of wind that compromised the stability of the aircraft.
Fall from a large tree
After losing control, the hang glider ended up stuck in the canopy of a white jequitibá tree, a large tree located inside the park. The pilot was suspended approximately 30 meters high, unable to descend on his own.
The situation required an immediate response from the Fire Department, which was alerted and dispatched teams to the scene to carry out the rescue. The operation, however, demands caution due to the condition of the tree.
Rescue requires caution.
According to firefighters, the branches where the equipment is stuck present a risk of breaking, which increases the complexity of removing the pilot. Therefore, the firefighters are carefully evaluating the best strategy to ensure the victim's safety during the operation. Comlurb (the city's sanitation company) was called in to assist in the rescue.
At this time, there is no information on the pilot's health status; he remains awaiting rescue high up in the tree.
