The Civil Police carried out, on the morning of this Wednesday (3), an operation to carry out temporary arrest warrants and search and seizure warrants against members of a gang suspected of stealing materials and equipment from a construction site at Arena Niterói, in the city center. Three men were arrested during the actions.
According to investigations, the crime occurred between the night of May 11th and the early morning of May 12th. Criminals broke into the site, overpowered the security guard responsible for the construction, who was tied up and assaulted, and stole a large quantity of construction equipment. The estimated loss is approximately R$ 500.
Police determined that 11 people participated in the operation. The group used two trucks to transport the stolen goods and three support vehicles to monitor movement in the area and assist in their escape.
Scheme
According to investigators, some of the suspects wore uniforms and equipment similar to those of the construction workers, in order to make identification more difficult while committing the crime.
The operation was coordinated by the 76th Police Precinct (Niterói), with support from the 59th Police Precinct (Duque de Caxias), and took place at addresses in the municipalities of Duque de Caxias and Nova Iguaçu, in the Baixada Fluminense region.
The investigations also involve collaboration from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and the Integrated Public Security Center of Niterói (Cisp-Niterói). The investigation indicates that the gang operated in an organized manner, with a division of roles and prior planning for the execution of the robbery.
The agents also identified the use of cloned vehicles to hinder the tracking of those involved and the actions of the security forces.
In total, three temporary arrest warrants and five search and seizure warrants were executed. The Civil Police are seeking to identify other participants in the crime and recover the materials taken from the construction site.
