Tiago Souza Alves, 40, was arrested on Tuesday morning (2), accused of using the “Goodnight, Cinderella” scam against another young man in Copacabana, in the South Zone of Rio. Civil police captured him in the Taquara neighborhood, in Saracuruna, a district of Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense.
There was an arrest warrant issued against him by the 43rd Criminal Court of the Capital for robbery. According to the investigation, the incident occurred between December 29th and 30th of last year. Security camera footage captured the moment when Tiago and the victim arrived together at the building where the young man lives, around 22:58 PM.
In the recording, it is possible to see the two entering the elevator and, at one point, the suspect even kisses the victim. About an hour and a half later, at 00:26, the cameras recorded Tiago leaving the premises carrying the resident's belongings.
In her statement, the victim said she met the suspect at Tia Joana bar, located on Rua Siqueira Campos, in Copacabana. The following morning, around 9 am, she woke up feeling unwell and reported vomiting blood. Afterwards, she realized that her documents, bank cards, cell phone, and some clothing had been stolen.
Losses
According to the Civil Police, the transactions made with the victim's cards began a few minutes after the suspect left the property, around 1 a.m., and continued throughout the night and the following morning. The young man suffered an estimated loss of R$ 6. Analysis of security camera footage and other investigations allowed agents to identify the perpetrator of the scam.
According to the police, Tiago already has a history of similar offenses. In 2023, he was caught red-handed for carrying out the same type of scam and remained in prison for about two years, being released in 2025.
After his arrest, he was taken to the 12th Police Station (Copacabana), where he remains at the disposal of the Justice system.
