Rodrigo Neves detonates fake news about a pro-Bolsonaro congressman

The Niterói Health Department will take legal action against Bolsonaro-supporting congressman Carlos Jordy for slander and defamation for spreading fake news about the lease costs of the Oceânico Hospital, intended for Covid-19 patients. The congressman stated that it cost 58 million reais when, in fact, the amount was 4,8 million reais.

In a statement, Mayor Rodrigo Neves denounces the reckless statements of the congressman from Bolsonaro's shock troops. "Congressman Jordy, who receives millions of reais in his office and has so far not brought a single ventilator or COVID-19 test to help save the lives of Niterói residents, is now trying to spread fake news and lies about the arduous work that health professionals, municipal guards, police officers, sanitation workers, social workers, and the Niterói City Hall are carrying out to protect our city and the lives of all Niterói residents," he stated.


According to the city hall, the hospital is valued at 45 million reais for sale. The Niterói Health Department leased it for 4,8 million reais for one year. The data is available on the city hall's transparency portal. "In other words, contrary to the rumors and lies spread by Congressman Jordy, the Niterói City Hall, in this moment of the battle for life against COVID-19, actually avoided expenses and acted responsibly once again, and by leasing the Oceânico Hospital for 4,8 million reais instead of buying it for 45 million, avoided expenses and saved more than 40 million reais from public funds," the statement continues.

The document also requests assistance from the city hall in "clarifying and refuting the false information, the despicable acts, and the fake news from the 'rumor mill' run by Representative Jordy, which is trying at all costs to undermine the hard and serious work of healthcare professionals, social workers, municipal guards, police officers, and the Niterói City Hall, who are recognized by the population, as well as nationally and internationally, in the fight against COVID-19."
