Half-hour session at Alerj becomes target of criticism and provokes reaction in plenary.

Rosenverg Reis questions the speed of the session and receives an immediate reaction from Tia Ju and Anderson Moraes.

A session that was heading towards its conclusion without major clashes ended up taking on a confrontational tone on Tuesday afternoon (05), at the Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro (Alerj).

After the bills were voted on, Representative Rosenverg Reis (MDB) asked for the floor to criticize the day's agenda and the session's duration, triggering an immediate reaction from parliamentarians linked to the House Speaker, Douglas Ruas (PL).

The congressman, brother of Washington Reis and Jane Reis, who is running for vice-governor on Eduardo Paes' ticket, complained about the speed with which the proceedings were concluded and stated that the agenda was "weakened." According to him, Parliament could have made better use of the time to discuss relevant proposals.

Criticisms of the agenda

During his speech, Rosenverg highlighted the time allotted for the agenda and requested more time for project analysis. “It’s 15:28 PM. The session has lasted 28 minutes. Such an important House, with such a weak agenda. We have so many good projects to put on the agenda, to discuss, to improve people’s futures,” he stated.

The congressman also emphasized that he has proposals under consideration and argued that they should be included on the agenda more frequently. "We need to enrich this agenda, Mr. President. Especially since this House is not cheap for the people of the state of Rio de Janeiro," he said.

He also requested priority for projects he authored. "Take my major projects that are currently under consideration and bring them forward on an urgent basis, because we will contribute significantly to this House," he declared.

Response from the presidency

The session was chaired by Representative Tia Ju (Republicanos), who responded to the criticism and defended the work of the Board of Directors. She stated that the projects analyzed were relevant and highlighted that the short duration of the session was due to the limited discussion in plenary.

"The agenda wasn't short, it's just that there was little discussion about the projects. But the agenda wasn't short, and the projects approved here today were important projects," he said.

The congresswoman also emphasized that Parliament maintains a constant pace of production. "The House continues to produce, and produce a lot. It is one of the most productive legislative bodies in Brazil," she stated.

Positioning of parliamentarians

Representative Anderson Moraes (PL) also spoke out and disagreed with the criticisms made by Rosenverg. According to him, the projects voted on had broad acceptance among parliamentarians.

"The projects on the agenda are not projects that impoverish Parliament here. Not at all. The high level of projects that reached the agenda today are projects that are unanimously not only accepted by all deputies but also received a 'yes' vote from everyone," he stated.

He added that the topics discussed were relevant to the population. "Issues of high relevance to the society of Rio de Janeiro," he said.

Debate on how it works

Aunt Ju reiterated her position and emphasized that there is room for discussion even after the projects have been voted on. "We cannot dismiss the projects that were approved here today, which were of the highest importance," she stated.

The congresswoman also reminded attendees that the final part of the session remains open for comments from parliamentarians interested in debating proposals.
