Nuclear attack simulation in Rio mobilizes Air Force, Army and Navy.

Brazilian Air Force training tests response to extreme scenarios with chemical, biological, and radiological risks.

A military exercise coordinated by the Brazilian Air Force is simulating scenarios of nuclear, biological, chemical, and radiological attacks in Rio de Janeiro. The operation is taking place at the Afonsos Air Base and will continue until May 8th, with the joint participation of the Armed Forces.

This activity is part of the Aeromedical Evacuation Operational Exercise focusing on Biological, Nuclear, Chemical and Radiological Defense (EXOP EVAM DBNQR). The objective is to train military personnel to act in situations considered high-risk, especially those involving invisible and rapidly spreading agents.

According to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), the exercise aims to strengthen the capacity to respond to critical situations, such as attacks with contaminating agents. One of the main focuses is the rescue and transport of victims in environments where there is a risk of contamination.

The operation is coordinated by the Air Force Training Command, in partnership with the Health Directorate, and also involves military personnel from the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian Army. The goal is to improve integrated operations between the different forces.

During training, two types of evacuation are simulated: conventional evacuation, carried out in everyday situations, and aeromedical evacuation in contaminated scenarios. In these cases, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory for both professionals and victims.

Captain Leandro Pacheco Amorim, a medical doctor responsible for the operational evaluation of the exercise, highlighted the importance of preparation. According to him, "the main objective is to prepare the teams to operate safely in contaminated environments, ensuring adequate support for patients during transport."

In addition to medical practice, the exercise also focuses on logistics and coordination between teams. The simulation aims to test protocols, communication, and resource utilization in complex situations where response time is crucial.

Afonsos Air Base was chosen because it offers suitable infrastructure for this type of training, allowing the simulation of different operational scenarios.

According to the organizers, exercises of this type are essential to keep the military prepared for large-scale emergencies, including situations involving biological and nuclear risks.
