Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Benedito Gonçalves ordered the release of former Rio de Janeiro Health Secretary Edmar Santos, following a request from the Attorney General's Office. The decision stems from the former secretary's testimony directly implicating Governor Wilson Witzel.
In the petition sent to Minister Benedito, Deputy Attorney General Lindôra Maria Araújo stated that it is not up to the Rio de Janeiro courts to decide whether or not to imprison Edmar Santos.
