Video: Shooting at São Paulo subway station leaves six injured, including an 11-month-old baby.

The confrontation occurred after an attempted robbery of an off-duty civil police officer at the São Bento station, in the Rua 25 de Março area. Train service was affected but has since returned to normal.

A shooting at the São Bento Metro station in São Paulo left six people injured on Saturday afternoon (30), including an 11-month-old baby. The confrontation occurred after an attempted robbery of an off-duty civil police officer at the entrance to the station, located in the Rua 25 de Março area, one of the busiest commercial areas in the São Paulo capital.

According to the Civil Police, three men approached the officer, who had just bought a computer in the area. One of the suspects was armed. There was an exchange of gunfire and five passengers were injured, in addition to one of the criminals, who was arrested and remains under police guard in a health unit.

Among the victims is the baby's father, who was shot and taken to Santa Casa hospital. According to the Fire Department, he suffered a fracture in his left arm and gunshot wounds to his abdomen and thigh. A 14-year-old girl was also injured. The other injured were assisted by Metro and Fire Department teams.

Security camera footage shows the moment hundreds of people ran to leave the station and Ladeira Porto Geral after the shooting began. Police officers who were in the area were also seen quickly moving towards the scene.

Two suspects managed to escape and are being sought by law enforcement. According to investigators from Garra/Dope, the circumstances of the shootout will be clarified through forensics, image analysis, and witness testimonies.

Subway service was temporarily interrupted.

The incident also caused a temporary interruption of train service on Line 1-Blue. Service was suspended between 12:11 PM and 12:42 PM after reports that one of the suspects had accessed the railway tracks. Service was normalized later in the afternoon.

In a statement, the Metro reported that its agents acted in support of the Military Police during the incident and that the shutdown was necessary to carry out a safety inspection of the section.

Recent history of armed violence in the region

This is the third incident involving gunfire in the Rua 25 de Março area in about a year and a half. In November 2024, a man killed his ex-wife on Ladeira Porto Geral. Then, in October 2025, a robber shot a victim in the head during a robbery nearby. These incidents, like today's, occurred on Saturday afternoons, which tend to have higher traffic due to the popular commerce.
