Following pressure from the Rio de Janeiro delegation in the Chamber of Deputies and the governor of Rio, Wilson Witzel, the president of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Dias Toffoli, decided to remove from the agenda the judgment of a lawsuit that could change the rules for the distribution of oil royalties. The session on the subject was scheduled for April 29th, next week. On that date, the Court's plenary would decide whether or not to uphold a preliminary injunction from Justice Cármen Lúcia in 2013, which prevented the redistribution of royalties among all Brazilian states, to the detriment of those where production occurs.
According to the National Petroleum Agency, the losses for Rio de Janeiro due to the rule change could reach R$ 56 billion by 2022, including the impact on the state and its municipalities. The state of Espírito Santo also made a similar request.
