The Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ) defines a rotation system and appoints 60 judges for electoral zones in the capital and the interior of the state.

Magistrates will serve two-year terms leading the electoral zones; the inauguration is scheduled for next Tuesday at the Palace of Democracy.

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ) defined, this Tuesday (2), the new composition of the electoral zones of the capital and the interior of the state. In total, 60 magistrates were appointed to assume the headship of the electoral units for the next two years, in a rotation process that seeks to expand the participation of judges in the Rio de Janeiro Electoral Justice system.

The decision was made during a session of the Electoral Court's Collegiate Body, held at the court's headquarters. Participating in the judgment were judges Claudio Mello Tavares, president of the TRE-RJ; Fernando Cerqueira Chagas, vice-president and regional electoral inspector; Guilherme Calmon; as well as electoral judges Rafael Estrela, Bruno Bodart, Paulo Cesar Salomão Filho, and Manoela Dourado.

Since assuming the presidency of the court last December, Claudio Mello Tavares had been advocating for the opening of calls for applications for the rotation of magistrates. The measure responded to a request from the Association of Magistrates of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Amaerj) and, according to the Court, aims to promote a broader distribution of electoral functions among the members of the state judiciary.

The inauguration ceremony for the new holders will take place next Tuesday (9), in the auditorium of the Palace of Democracy, headquarters of the TRE-RJ, in the center of the capital of Rio de Janeiro.

Rotation system expands participation in the Electoral Court.

The rotation system adopted by the TRE-RJ (Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro) allows magistrates from the state courts to temporarily take over the management of electoral zones, which are responsible for activities such as voter registration, election organization, party oversight, and judging electoral matters in the first instance.

The periodic renewal of judges is considered a tool to broaden their experience in the electoral field and ensure greater integration between the ordinary courts and the specialized courts.

With the new composition defined, the magistrates will officially begin their terms after the collective swearing-in ceremony scheduled for the 9th.
