A shooting attack against a Military Police team ended with the death of a sub-lieutenant and left other police officers injured on Thursday afternoon (28), in the Covanca community, in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The agents were on the move when the vehicle they were traveling in was targeted by shots fired by criminals.
According to initial reports, the attack occurred on Virgínia Vidal Street. The P2 team was patrolling the area when they were surprised by gunfire. During the operation, four military police officers were hit.
Among the victims is Sub-Lieutenant André Luiz Cardoso Eccard, who succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead after being admitted to the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital in Barra da Tijuca.

In addition to the police officer killed, other officers were injured during the attack.
According to information provided by security forces, the police officer identified as Fernandes do Gat was shot in the head and is in serious condition.
The police officer known as Lopes from P2 was shot in the back. According to preliminary information, his condition is not considered serious.
Initial reports also indicate that a fourth police officer was injured during the attack. However, there has been no official confirmation of their condition so far.
Attack on the vehicle
The incident occurred when officers were patrolling Virgínia Vidal Street, one of the access roads to the Covanca community. Unidentified criminals opened fire on the police vehicle.
After the shooting, the victims were rescued and taken to the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, where they received medical attention.
The case mobilized teams from the Military Police and will be investigated to identify those responsible for the attack. Watch Video:

According to the command of the 18th BPM (Jacarepaguá), during a patrol in the Tanque neighborhood, police officers from the unit were attacked by gunfire. In the action, four officers were injured and taken to Lourenço Jorge Hospital. One of them did not survive. Incident in progress.
Sub-lieutenant Eccard was 49 years old and joined the ranks of the Corporation in 2000. Information regarding the time and location of the burial is not yet available.

So far, no information has been released regarding arrests or confrontations related to the incident. The circumstances of the attack are still being investigated by the authorities.
The death of Sub-Lieutenant Eccard adds to the list of security agents who have fallen victim to violence in the state and reinforces concerns about the risks faced by police officers during operations and intelligence actions in areas dominated by organized crime.
