The free dog and cat neutering program, Castra Mais RJ, is coming to the Vila Isabel neighborhood in the North Zone starting June 1st. The program will take place in the Assaí Boulevard parking lot, Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 15 pm, and will continue until June 12th.
To participate, tutors must schedule an appointment in advance through the website. http://castramaisrj2.com.br/It is also mandatory that the animals be registered on SinPatinhas, a federal government platform that gathers information about domestic animals throughout the country.
In addition to neutering, the pets treated receive a subcutaneously implanted identification microchip. The device stores the owner's information, such as name, phone number, and address, aiding in the identification and safety of the animals.
Partnership with ministry
The Castra Mais RJ program is implemented through an initiative by federal deputy Marcelo Queiroz (PSDB-RJ), in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. The program has the capacity to perform up to 300 sterilizations per day.
“Bringing the Castra Mais RJ program to Vila Isabel guarantees free access to animal health and also contributes to the responsible control of the dog and cat population. Spaying and neutering is a public health and animal protection measure,” highlighted Marcelo Queiroz.
